The Trauma and Life Support Center (TLC) is a 24-bed critical care inpatient unit at the University Hospital that primarily serves the adult medical, surgical and trauma patient populations. Our patients range in age from adolescent to older adult. Patients are admitted on an emergent or non-emergent basis through a variety of routes including the Emergency Department, direct admissions from outlying facilities, in-house transfers and post-operative/procedural admissions.
Being a patient or a family member of a patient in the intensive care unit (ICU) can be a difficult experience. With this in mind, it is our goal to clearly communicate information with you while also being careful to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

About the TLC
The majority of patients admitted to TLC are critically ill medical, post-surgical or post-traumatic patients who require aggressive intervention. Our staff serves patients who have undergone aortic and thoracic aneurysm repair, extensive facial/oral/neck reconstruction, and liver transplantation as well as those who have experienced multi-system failure, respiratory failure and gastrointestinal bleeding. |
